🩺 Ultimate Prostate Check Blood Test at Prescriptions Pharmacy

Advanced Prostate Health Blood Test in Prescot – £120

💉 This advanced prostate blood test measures Total PSA, Free PSA and the Free-to-Total PSA ratio to provide a more detailed assessment of prostate health than a standard PSA test alone.

🧬 What Does This Test Check?

This panel includes:

🧪 Total PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen)

🧪 Free PSA

🧪 Free PSA : Total PSA Ratio

👨‍⚕️ Who May This Test Be Suitable For?

This test may be suitable if you:

👨 Are concerned about prostate health

📈 Have previously had a raised PSA level

🚽 Have urinary symptoms (e.g. frequency, weak flow)

🧬 Have a family history of prostate problems

⚖️ Want a more detailed assessment than a basic PSA test

📌 This test provides information about prostate-related markers but does not diagnose prostate cancer.

⚡ Why Are These Markers Important?

🧪 Total PSA measures the overall level of prostate-specific antigen in the blood. Raised levels may indicate a prostate issue, but can also be caused by non-cancerous conditions such as enlargement or inflammation. :contentReference[oaicite:0]{index=0}

🧪 Free PSA measures the portion of PSA that circulates freely in the blood rather than being bound to proteins.

📊 Free PSA Ratio compares free PSA to total PSA, providing additional context that helps refine risk assessment.

💡 PSA alone can be difficult to interpret, as many men with raised PSA do not have cancer. Studies show that adding free PSA and the ratio can improve the accuracy of assessment. :contentReference[oaicite:1]{index=1}

🔍 Why Is This More Than Just a PSA Test?

A standard prostate test usually measures Total PSA only.

However, PSA levels alone can be misleading:

⚠️ Many men with raised PSA do NOT have prostate cancer

⚠️ PSA can rise due to benign enlargement, infection or other factors

This test goes further by including Free PSA and the Free PSA Ratio.

This provides a more detailed picture:

📊 A lower free PSA ratio is associated with a higher likelihood of prostate cancer

📊 A higher free PSA ratio is more often seen in non-cancerous prostate conditions :contentReference[oaicite:2]{index=2}

💡 In men with borderline PSA results, the ratio helps doctors decide whether further investigation may be needed.

✔️ This makes the test more informative than a basic PSA test alone ✔️ Helps reduce unnecessary concern or further testing in some cases ✔️ Provides a more refined assessment of prostate risk
