๐Ÿ“˜ What Are Wegovyยฎ Tablets?

Wegovy tablets contain semaglutide, a medicine belonging to a group known as GLP-1 receptor agonists.

Semaglutide acts in a similar way to a naturally occurring hormone called glucagon-like peptide-1, or GLP-1, which is released by the body after eating.

Wegovy tablets act on areas of the brain involved in appetite regulation. This may help patients feel fuller, experience less hunger and have fewer food cravings.

The tablets are intended to support weight loss and weight maintenance when used alongside a reduced-calorie diet, increased physical activity and appropriate clinical support.

๐Ÿ“Œ Wegovy tablets are sometimes referred to as oral semaglutide or the Wegovy weight loss pill. They are different from Wegovy injections and must be taken according to specific daily instructions.

โš™๏ธ How Wegovyยฎ Tablets Support Weight Loss

Wegovy tablets may support weight management by helping to regulate appetite and food intake.

๐Ÿฝ๏ธ They may reduce feelings of hunger

โœ… They may help you feel fuller after eating

๐Ÿง  They may reduce food cravings

๐Ÿฅ— They may make it easier to follow a reduced-calorie eating plan

These effects can help support gradual weight loss when the medicine is taken correctly and combined with sustainable changes to diet, activity and lifestyle.

โš ๏ธ Results differ between individuals. Wegovy is not a replacement for healthy eating, physical activity or ongoing clinical monitoring.

๐Ÿงฉ Who May Be Suitable for Wegovyยฎ Tablets?

Wegovy tablets may be considered for adults who:

โš–๏ธ Have a BMI of 30 or above, or

๐Ÿซ€ Have a BMI of 27 or above but below 30 together with at least one weight-related health condition

Examples of weight-related conditions may include high blood pressure, abnormal blood fats, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes.

๐Ÿฉบ During your consultation, your prescribing pharmacist will review your:

โœ”๏ธ Medical history

โœ”๏ธ Current and recent medicines

โœ”๏ธ Previous weight-management attempts

โœ”๏ธ Current weight, BMI and treatment goals

โœ”๏ธ Relevant medical conditions and individual risk factors

โœ”๏ธ Ability to follow the specific tablet administration instructions

โš ๏ธ Meeting the BMI criteria does not automatically mean that Wegovy tablets will be prescribed. Treatment is provided only following a complete clinical assessment.

๐Ÿšซ When Wegovyยฎ Tablets May Not Be Suitable

Wegovy tablets may not be suitable for some patients. Your prescribing pharmacist will assess your individual circumstances before treatment is considered.

Treatment may not be appropriate, or may require additional consideration, if you:

๐Ÿคฐ Are pregnant, planning pregnancy or breastfeeding

โš ๏ธ Are allergic to semaglutide or any ingredient in the tablets

๐Ÿซƒ Have a history of pancreatitis or certain significant digestive conditions

๐Ÿ‘๏ธ Have diabetic eye disease or changes in your vision

๐Ÿฉธ Take insulin or certain diabetes medicines that may increase the risk of low blood sugar

๐Ÿ’ง Have a medical condition that increases the risk from dehydration

๐Ÿซ˜ Have severe kidney or liver impairment

๐Ÿ’Š Already use another GLP-1 receptor agonist medicine

You should provide complete and accurate information about your medical history and medication during your consultation.

๐Ÿ’Š How to Take Wegovyยฎ Tablets

Wegovy is taken as one tablet once daily. It must be taken in a particular way because food, drinks and other oral medicines can reduce the amount of semaglutide absorbed by the body.

How to take your Wegovy tablet:

๐ŸŒ™ Fast for at least 8 hours before taking the tablet

๐Ÿ’Š Take one tablet only on an empty stomach

๐Ÿ’ง Swallow the tablet whole with a sip of water, using no more than 120ml

โ›” Do not split, crush or chew the tablet

โณ Wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking or taking any other oral medicine

Following these instructions is important because eating, drinking or taking another oral medicine too soon after Wegovy can reduce absorption.

โœ… Always follow the personalised instructions provided by your prescribing pharmacist.

If you miss a dose of Wegovy tablets, skip the missed dose and take your next scheduled dose the following day.

Do not take two tablets on the same day to make up for a missed dose.

Speak to your pharmacist if you have missed several doses or are unsure how to restart treatment.

โš ๏ธ Possible Side Effects

Like all medicines, Wegovy tablets can cause side effects. Digestive side effects are particularly common when treatment is started or the dose is increased.

๐Ÿ’Š Wegovyยฎ Tablets or Wegovyยฎ Injections?

Wegovy is available in both oral tablet and injectable formulations. Both contain semaglutide, but they have different strengths, dosing schedules and administration requirements.

๐Ÿ’Š Wegovy tablets are taken once daily after an overnight fast and require a 30-minute wait before food, drink or other oral medicines.

๐Ÿ’‰ Wegovy injections are administered under the skin once weekly.

One option is not automatically better than the other. Suitability may depend on your medical history, current treatment, ability to follow the administration instructions, personal preferences and medicine availability.

Any switch between Wegovy injections and tablets must be planned and authorised by a qualified prescriber. The doses are not directly interchangeable.

๐Ÿ’ง Maintain an appropriate fluid intake

๐Ÿ“Š Attend scheduled weight, progress and dose reviews

๐Ÿ’ฌ Tell your pharmacist about side effects or concerns
